We’re proud to announce our sponsorship of the Guernsey Ladies Volleyball team at this year’s Gotland NatWest Island Games. We also have offices in Sweden where the event is to be staged. Our Guernsey Managing Director James Orrick went down to a training session in the lead-up to wish the team luck.
Peter Toyberg, PEA Group Managing Director says: ‘The Island Games is a fantastic event which attracts thousands of spectators to watch around 2,500 athletes from 24 different islands competing in 13 sports. It is all about teamwork and striving for excellence which here at PEA we relate to very strongly. It is great for us to underline the connection our offices have in both locations and we wish the Guernsey Ladies Volleyball team the best of luck.’
The reigning champions in ladies and men’s volleyball are Saaremaa who won gold in both events in Jersey in 2015. This year’s Island Games draw will see Guernsey face Saaremaa as well as Hitra, Jersey and hosts Gotland. Guernsey Captain Carla Marley says the funding is a great enabler for the squad: ‘The costs involved in playing team sports at an international level can be prohibitive, especially in the current economic climate. We are extremely grateful for the financial support PEA has given us and we hope that we can do them and our many supporters proud on the court.’
